Apple launches with “disastrous” new Maps app

21st September 2012

iPhone users and fans of Apple have reacted with anger and frustration at the new maps application launched yesterday on the iPhone.

Many of the users have reported that the app doesn’t live up to the former Google Maps application which Apple decided to replace in favour of their own.

The app, which is made in collaboration with TomTom, supposedly offers much less details and gives poor or no information on many well known landmarks.

Some official complaints posted on popular tech websites like The Register, claim the application has a ton of obvious mistakes, from towns being located in completely the wrong place to rural roads missing.

The application has been the victim of many jokes already today and both critics and users have ensured that everyone hears about one of the few Apple failures , with it even trending on Twitter. We wanted to share some of our favourite Tweets:

“iPhone 5 lines shorter than expected as early adopters try to use iOS 6 Maps to locate Apple Stores.”

“The entire City of Newport doesn’t even exist on Apple’s new maps. (This is not necessarily a bad thing)”

“Imagine trying to use ‘Find my iPhone’ with Apple Maps.”

“Thanks to Apple maps there are currently 8,000 people outside a furniture depot in Swindon queuing to be the first to get the iPhone 5.”

Even staff at London’s Hackney Wick station poked fun at Apple’s expense
