Your Guide to Page Load Speed

29th May 2018

If a page on a website takes a long time to load, you might let out a sigh and move your mouse around impatiently. If it takes a really long time to load, you might even give up and try a different website. Many studies emphasise the relationship between page speed and bounce rate, concluding that every millisecond is important. Page speed has been a big ranking factor for any website on desktop since 2010 and, more recently, on mobile. This is because it’s such a major aspect of user experience; people want information without having to work too hard to find it.

What Does the Research Say?

In some recent research carried out by SEMrush on 150,000 different websites, 82.89% had various issues that negatively influenced their page speed, all with varying levels of severity. These issues included things like uncompressed or uncached JavaScript and CSS files or large HTML page size. In fact, a massive 68.09% had unminified JavaScript and CSS files. All of these issues have something in common as well as slowing down the site; they can all be addressed. We provide this service to our clients on a monthly basis due to the importance of both SEO (search engine optimisation) and general user experience.
