Google Rolls Out AI-Powered Configuration Tool in Search Console to All Users

More than two months after first introducing it in testing, Google has officially rolled out its AI-powered configuration tool in Search Console to all users.

In a post on LinkedIn, Google announced: “The Search Console’s new AI-powered configuration is now available to everyone!”

What the AI-powered configuration does

The new feature allows users to describe the analysis they want in plain language. Instead of manually adjusting filters and settings, you simply ask a question, and the tool automatically configures the Performance report for you.

According to Google, the feature “lets you describe the analysis you want to see in natural language. Your inputs are then transformed into the appropriate filters and settings, instantly configuring the report for you.”

Where to find it

If the update has reached your account, you’ll see a message at the top of the Performance report that reads: “New! Customise your Performance report using AI.” Clicking this prompt launches the AI configuration tool.

How it works

As previously explained by Google, the AI-powered configuration is designed to simplify analysis by handling three core tasks:

  • Selecting metrics: It chooses from the four available metrics (Clicks, Impressions, Average CTR, and Average Position) based on your query.

  • Applying filters: It can refine data by query, page, country, device, search appearance, or date range.

  • Setting up comparisons: It automatically configures comparisons, including custom date ranges, without requiring manual setup.

Why it matters

Currently, the feature is limited to the Performance report for Search results. It does not yet support Discover or News reports.

Because it relies on AI, the outputs may not always be perfect. However, it can be a helpful and even insightful way to explore your data from new angles or uncover trends you might not have considered.

If you use Search Console regularly, it’s worth testing out the new tool to see how it fits into your workflow.
