IGTV is growing at a fast pace and because it is still fairly new, now is a great time to get ahead of the competition.
In order to build up an engaged audience on IGTV it is vital to do your research and create the kind of content your audience are searching for. But how do you do this…?

From writing video titles to post timing, here is everything you need to help you get started on IGTV and give your Instagram presence a boost…

  • Don’t worry about pretty polished videos, you will see more engagement if the content is real and relatable. This goes for the thumbnail image too; if the photo is too polished it can look like an advertisement, so keep it simple and select a still image from the video.
  • Use the video title as you would to write a normal Instagram post and include important keywords. When it comes to the descriptions you can include clickable links, hashtags and handles, we would also recommend including keywords here too. (NOTE – Unfortunately the IGTV search function is currently very limited and only displays channel names. However, Instagram are apparently working to improve this, so it is important to optimise your videos ready for this update).
  • When it comes to content, it is important to give your audience what they want by researching what posts have done well in the past. This can be achieved using your Instagram analytics. It is also a good idea to make time to explore IGTV videos yourself to see what content is popular. Focus on sharable, relatable and taggable content.
  • Optimise your videos for ‘sound off’ viewing, which means adding on screen text and only using music on content that is more visual.
Finally, carefully plan the timing of your posts, concentrating on when people are on their phones during the evenings or lunch breaks.
