Google Has Released a Broad Core Update

Google Core Update
14th June 2021

Every day, Google tends to release at least one minor change to help improve their search results. These changes typically go unnoticed, even by SEO experts, but sometimes they release a bigger update that is more discernible. These updates are designed to ensure the SERP is displaying the most relevant and authoritative content, improving user experience.

Google’s latest core update began rolling out on Wednesday 2nd of June, just six months after the last one in December, and we should expect part two of this update to be released in July. They are pushing two updates in close range simply because all of the planned improvements weren’t quite ready in time for June. It’s a global update, impacting all languages, and will likely take around two weeks to rollout.

It’s important to understand Google’s updates, including when they will happen and how they might affect you, so that when you are monitoring your analytics and rankings, you are able to explain any unusual changes if they occur.

What Does The Google Update Mean for My Website?

As with any Google update, there may be some changes in rankings. Google have stated that some changes that happen after the June update may actually reverse after part two in July, so if your rankings have seen a bit of a dip, the chances are they will rise back up again next month.

It’s important to note that there’s nothing wrong with the pages on your website that may not perform as well after a core update. It just might mean that other websites who were under-rewarded before have been given an opportunity to rise up the SERP, causing your own to drop.

You might want to look for a specific fix, in which case it’s a good idea to assess your existing content. Is it still relevant? Is it insightful, substantial, and trustworthy? Is it something people are likely to share, bookmark, or reference? Are there any spelling or stylistic errors? How does it compare to your competitor’s content? Update your content where necessary, but often there isn’t anything in particular that needs to be fixed, so don’t panic.
