The LinkedIn Scam

3rd April 2012

Innermedia have been made aware of a scam whereby criminal hackers use LinkedIn to hack into people’s personal data

There is an email being sent out, that is titled “LinkedIn invitation from your co-worker”. Despite looking official with the company logo on the email, this email is in fact a fake and it will actually direct you to site that isn’t LinkedIn and this is where you will be asked to fill out your personal details. Any details that you enter could be used by a cyber thief to hack into your online accounts.

LinkedIn say that they will never ask you to install a software update or open an email attachment. If you have any emails from LinkedIn that ask you to do this or that are suspicious, we recommend that you forward them to safety@linkedin.com.
