Facebook crack down on promotional cover photos

23rd May 2013

When considering your Website Design and the content that you wish to use to accurately promote your business there are few restrictions that get in your way. Obviously copyright is a major concern but other than that there are not really any other things, apart from engaging content, for mainstream business owners to concern themselves with.

Facebook on the other hand is quite different in this regard and it would seem that they are finally cracking down on users of the popular social media site for copyright infringement and the use of promotional materials / images as cover photos on their personal timelines.

The issue is complicated however, in short, Facebook have not given specific reasons for this move but social media experts believe that they are attempting to stop companies encouraging promotion of their businesses on user’s timelines thus potentially earning more money from said companies in necessary promotion on the Facebook site.

Disney is a very good example of this as they actively supply fans of their franchise with pictures from their Website Design and brand that are specifically formatted for use on the Facebook site; this practice is basically gaining them a vast amount of free advertising.

This possibility has been seriously questioned by many as Facebook is supposed to be open for users to express themselves in whichever way they choose as long as they are not breaking any laws; if someone chooses to promote a company’s Website Design or brand they should be able to, shouldn’t they?
