thornton college had a story worth telling, they just needed a film that could tell it.
THE CHALLENGE
- The school’s existing video content no longer reflected the breadth or warmth of life at Thornton College
- A generic school film would fail to capture what genuinely sets the school apart from its competitors
- Student voice needed to be central — authentic and wide-ranging, from the youngest year groups through to Sixth Form
- The boarding provision and international community required honest, warm representation — not an afterthought
- The school’s distinctive facilities and grounds had to feel integral to the story, not merely decorative
- The final film needed to work hard across the website and social media as a single, credible flagship asset
OUR APPROACH
We worked closely with Thornton College to map out every aspect of school life they wanted to showcase. With so much ground to cover, we structured the two-day shoot to move through the school methodically, ensuring every department and setting received the time it deserved.
Filming captured Early Years classrooms, science experiments across chemistry, physics and biology, the choir in the Red Hall, ballet and drama, and Sixth Form life in the cafe and seminar rooms. Some of the most distinctive sequences came from the swimming pool and gym, the forest school with den-building and campfire marshmallows, and the boarding house, shot to convey the warmth and independence that makes Thornton a second home. The chapel, library and grounds gave the film its sense of place.
In post-production, the footage was edited into a single three-minute film, structured to move the viewer through the school with energy and flow. Students from across the school provided the voiceover, with voices ranging from the youngest years through to Sixth Form.
