st christopher’s leaves a mark on every child, my first day captures exactly what that looks like.
THE CHALLENGE
- The school wanted a film that captured the full emotional arc of a St Christopher’s education, from the very first day in EYFS through to the end of Prep
- It needed to connect with prospective families on a personal level — not just inform, but genuinely move them
- Current families needed to watch it and recognise it as true to their own experience
- The brief called for something cinematic and heartfelt — a deliberate departure from the conventional school film
- The film had to communicate the lasting impact of a St Christopher’s education in a way that felt genuine, not merely aspirational
OUR APPROACH
The creative concept was built around an original poem written from a pupil’s perspective, reflecting on their time at the school. The film opens with a Year 6 pupil walking past the school gates, pausing, and closing her eyes as the memories come flooding back, before moving through a series of flashbacks illustrating moments from the poem.
We captured a pastoral one-to-one with Head Tom, computing lessons, sports, maths activities, lunchtime on the trim trail, the orchestra in the Upper Hall, Year 3 science and Year 5 drama on stage. The voiceover was performed by the same Year 6 pupil who appears at the gates, giving the film a coherence and intimacy that makes the concept land.
In post-production, the edit was structured to follow the arc of the poem, with footage and voiceover working in close step throughout, balancing the reflective framing of the opening with the energy and warmth of the school day scenes.
