st christopher’s the hall school

St Christopher’s The Hall School is an independent preparatory school in Hampstead, North London, educating boys and girls from EYFS through to the end of Year 6.

OVERVIEW

st christopher’s leaves a mark on every child, my first day captures exactly what that looks like.

THE CHALLENGE

  • The school wanted a film that captured the full emotional arc of a St Christopher’s education, from the very first day in EYFS through to the end of Prep
  • It needed to connect with prospective families on a personal level — not just inform, but genuinely move them
  • Current families needed to watch it and recognise it as true to their own experience
  • The brief called for something cinematic and heartfelt — a deliberate departure from the conventional school film
  • The film had to communicate the lasting impact of a St Christopher’s education in a way that felt genuine, not merely aspirational

OUR APPROACH

The creative concept was built around an original poem written from a pupil’s perspective, reflecting on their time at the school. The film opens with a Year 6 pupil walking past the school gates, pausing, and closing her eyes as the memories come flooding back, before moving through a series of flashbacks illustrating moments from the poem.

We captured a pastoral one-to-one with Head Tom, computing lessons, sports, maths activities, lunchtime on the trim trail, the orchestra in the Upper Hall, Year 3 science and Year 5 drama on stage. The voiceover was performed by the same Year 6 pupil who appears at the gates, giving the film a coherence and intimacy that makes the concept land.

In post-production, the edit was structured to follow the arc of the poem, with footage and voiceover working in close step throughout, balancing the reflective framing of the opening with the energy and warmth of the school day scenes.

WHAT WE DELIVERED

a school film, “my first day” — written as a poem, performed by a pupil, and built to feel unmistakably like st christopher’s.

  • Original poem written from a pupil’s perspective
  • Single-day on-site filming
  • Year 6 pupil voiceover recording
  • Opening narrative sequence at the school gates

  • Flashback sequences across EYFS to Year 6
  • Pastoral, academic and co-curricular footage
  • Post-production edit structured to the poem
  • Website and social media ready formats
THE FILM

one voice, six years, three minutes.

The heart of “My First Day” is the poem — original writing performed by a Year 6 pupil, who also appears on screen in the film’s opening moments. It’s a creative device that gives the film something most school videos don’t have: a single, sustained point of view. The flashback structure keeps the edit anchored and purposeful, with every sequence chosen to illustrate a specific moment in the poem rather than fill time. The result is a film that doesn’t just show the school — it tells its story.

THE OUTCOME

six years of st christopher’s, now impossible to forget.

St Christopher’s The Hall School now has a flagship film that sits at the top of their homepage. “My First Day” tells a story — one that prospective families can imagine themselves and their children in, and that captures the genuine warmth and ambition of the school in a way that a conventional film could not. The film works across the website and social media, and the poem at its heart gives it a memorability that sets it apart from anything else in the school’s marketing.
